Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at Ocean Cove Campground on California's beautiful Sonoma Coast.
Award plaques for biggest abalone, spearfishing and pole spear categories.
Raffle and Silent Auction with dive gear and much more. It's fun!
$40 registration per person on the day of the event. OR save $10: only $30 with early registration using this online form!
Sign in at Group Campsite #3 beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. Competitors will be held until sign in is complete @ 7:30 am.
Dave Whittington's s world-famous chili will be served free to all competitors starting at noon. Families & friends of competitors - and the public- are welcome to join us for a hot lunch for a $5 donation. All you can eat.

Non-competitors and members of the public are welcome to join us for the weigh in and participate in our raffle.

Randy's Big X Freedive Competition Rules:
Open
to everyone. (Competitors under 18 years of age must have signature on waiver
by parent or guardian.)
Current California Department of Fish and Game laws apply.
All divers must register with a buddy. This is a individual competition this year, not a team event, but you need another diver buddy checking for you.
All spearfishing from any vessel or from shore to be conducted by freediving only.
Tournament registration starts at 7:00 AM.
All contestants must check-in at Ocean Cove Campground group site.
You can start fishing immediately after check-in at any location on the coast.
All competitors must check-out at the Tournament Weigh-in (Ocean Cove Campground) by 1 PM.
SAFETY EXEMPTION: Competitors who participate in sea rescue may be granted an exemption on the weigh-in deadline. Subject to decision by weighmaster. Safety first, competition second.
Measurement/Weight:
Use caliper for measuring abalone to closest hundredth of
an inch.
Use scale for weighing fish to closest tenth of pound.
Decision of the
Weighmaster is Final.
Scoring – Individual Points:
One point per fish plus one point per pound. Best aggregate score wins. Up to twenty fish can be submitted by one
individual, but no more than four fish of the same species. Fish
must measure at least fourteen inches in length with mouth closed, or meet
DF&G minimum size requirements.
The caudal fins of fish being measured shall be swept back to enhance
their lengths No sharks, skates, rays
or prohibited (by DFG) species.
Abalone measured by length.
Etiquette & Safety:
The Randy Fry Big X Tourney promotes friendly competition and cooperation. Individuals competing in motorized vessels or kayaks should yield to divers in the water & be ready to assist divers in trouble. Always yield to the least mobile participants.
Divisions/Awards:
All contestants may enter Abalone, Finfish or both.
Awards commemorating Randy’s Big Ten will be given to each diver in the following divisions:
Men's Speargun Division: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places
Women's Speargun Division: 1st, 2nd 3rd Places
Abalone Division 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places
Open: Biggest Fish
Top Junior (under 18) + Top Pole Spear
Eligibility:
Paid entry fee.
Waiver signed.
California Department of Fish and Game license and
abalone punch card checked.
Disqualifications:
California Department of Fish and Game law
broken.
Failure to check-out on time.
